I am pleased to announce Maureen Scharf as the new principal for Bowcroft School effective July 1, 2026. Principal Scharf will be meeting with Principal Thomsen in the coming days to ensure a smooth transition in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year. 

I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the students, staff and families of Bowcroft School for your patience and support throughout our HR processes. This includes taking time to provide input that will be key to supporting Principal Scharf's leadership at Bowcroft School.

Greeting from Principal Scharf 

Guten Tag Bowcroft School Community!

I am very excited and honoured to be joining this dynamic and wonderful school community as your new Principal. As an administrator in CBE Languages, I have had many opportunities to connect with Frau Thomsen and other colleagues, from whom I have heard such great things about the families, community, and staff at this school. As a former student of the German language, I am also thrilled to have the chance to practice again! Ich habe viel vergessen.

To give you some background about myself, I am originally from Saskatoon and have worked in the Calgary Board of Education for over twenty years. My teaching background has included mostly middle school, teaching international languages and Math/Science in both the regular program and in French Immersion. I have also supported Indigenous Education as a system leader, focusing on literacy and math instruction. Most recently, I have been the Assistant Principal responsible for language programs at Western Canada High School.

As a leader, I am passionate about supporting success for all students. I believe in creating an inclusive and collaborative school environment by listening to students, families, and staff. I look forward to building upon the successes of the school’s academics, clubs, and extra-curricular opportunities so that each student feels they are supported and have a place to connect.
