Dear Parents and Guardians,

Let’s start with good news:

The fall 2025 survey results from OurSCHOOL are now available. I would like to share some positive news about our grade 6 students:

  • 100% of boys and 73% of girls have Life Satisfaction, meaning that they are happy. Both are higher than the provincial and national averages.
  • 93% of boys and 71% of girls have a sense of belonging, again, much higher than the provincial and national average for boys and a little above for the girls.
  • Only 7% of boys struggle with depression (much lower than the above 25% of the provincial average. 28% of girls struggle with depression, which is provincial average.

For our grade 4/5 students:

  • Their sense of belonging has increased by 12%, up to 78% (grade 4, male: 78%, grade 4 female 78%, grade 5, male: 89%, grade 5, female: 72%) = mean of 78%
  • Their life satisfaction has increased by 12% to 85%
  • And 70% of them feel safe attending the school, an improvement of 16%

More good news:

The 360 degree OUTSIDE camera surveillance VST Site Design has been approved by the VST Governance Committee.  An electrical contract will be awarded in February 2026, after which a construction schedule will be confirmed.

BPAC Update:

A huge Thank You goes to Brittany Fraser, Wayne Jackson and Krystina Edwards for years of dedicating time, energy and passion to Bowcroft School through BPAC. Thank You also goes to Nicole Walters, who has been the casino chairperson for many years. While she is passing on this responsibility, Nicole continues in her role as secretary.

We welcome new members to the executive of BPAC:

  • President: Britt Hart
  • VP: Gage McLeod
  • Treasurer: Kyle Schaub
  • Casino Chairperson: Sara Corbeil

No parking in the staff parking lot:

Please, we understand that you are sometimes in a hurry and that the staff parking lots seems like a convenient place to park, but …. Inevitably, you are parked in a staff spot – so now the staff who is arriving can’t park. This week, one of our teachers almost got run over by a parent who put their car into reverse and didn’t check if someone was walking behind their car. Totally unsafe. We have also had parents who ‘brush’ up against staff cars, leaving marks, but not coming into the office to report that they just damaged a teacher’s car. If you have been a parent at Bowcroft for a while, you know that this is an ongoing problem. In some schools, metal bars and large chains are being put over entrances to avoid these situations. At Bowcroft, my hope is that parents can make responsible choices and park on the road. Thank you for your support in this important matter.

A reminder that there is no school next week Monday to Wednesday. Students are back on Thursday, November 13.

Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen, principal/Schulleiterin
