Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

The school council meeting  is delayed by a week, but the agenda stays the same: If you are curious who the principal at Thomas B. Riley School school is, then please join us at the BPAC meeting on Monday, April 15, 2024 at 6:30 to meet Mrs. Tiffiany Austin! She will be speaking first, so you could join us briefly and/or stay for the rest of the meeting, too.

The CBE is growing and its budget is going to be $1.4 billion dollars. While this is a really big number, we need to keep in mind that it is used to educated 147,000  students. In 2022-23, the CBE had 131,000 students, this year, we have 138,000 students and next year, 147,000 will be registered in the CBE. In two years, 16,000 additional students! Think about how many more schools that is if each school has around 500 students! Part of these new students will be joining the Bowcroft Family. Therefore, 410 is the new projected student number!

This week, for example, we added six new students to Bowcroft. Yet the week before, five students moved away. Loosing friends while new students arrive always makes for adjustments in classroom dynamics. After intake meetings with myself and a school tour, new students start attending Bowcroft two days later to allow teachers to get a new space ready (and materials) and the office to enrol the new students in all the correct courses.

RAM has come out this week, and I will update you on what the 2024-25 school year will look like in regards to staffing as we progress through the staffing procedures in May and June.

Grade 4-6 went to the Aggie Days on Wednesday and the grade 2/3s on Thursday. I am sure they came home with many stories to tell!

If you know friends or neighbors who have young children who look like they may be going into kindergarten in the fall, do ask them to register asap. It helps with staffing and planning for next year. Thank you.

Next week is a short week with Friday being a System Professional Learning day that sees all teachers being ‘students’ and learning.

Warm regards,

Meike Thomsen, Principal
