Dear Parents and Guardians

Ms. Dietrich, one of our grade 3 teachers, has been the first to go on the weeklong Calgary Open Minds field trip to Ralph Klein Park. A huge THANK YOU to the many volunteers who accompanied the students. The kids had a great time, especially with the zipline, the observations, the walking around, the sketching and journaling etc. Here is what one of our parent volunteers shared:

I think the field trip was an excellent opportunity for the kids. This will be what we will remember most about Grade 3 for my son.  The field trip was extremely well organized, and very well facilitated by both Mrs. D & the City of Calgary - the teachers from the City of Calgary were so very passionate about what they were teaching and it showed! It’s a big topic for kids to understand but teaching them this early feels important, and I hope they could take away some important information. My son was going to bed early and couldn't wait to get to school each day for the trip! Our family will look to check out the facility in the summer, we greatly appreciate the introduction to it. Thank you, for all the work put into providing this opportunity for the kids.

Frau Schafer, our German grade 3 teacher, had her students participate in the Remembrance Day poster contest. We are pleased to share that some of our students' entries have qualified to advance to the next level of competition.

  • Mackenzie-Primary Category Colour Poster - 1st Place
  • Ellie - Primary Category Colour Poster - 2nd Place
  • Indiana- Primary Category Colour Poster - 3rd Place
  • Drishana- Primary Category Black & White Poster - 1st Place
  • Benjamin - Primary Category Black & White Poster - 2nd Place

Congratulations!!!

Thank you to Ms. Amy for organizing such a successful Family Math Night on Tuesday evening. Lots of parents and guardians learned new math games to play at home to practice math skills. Having the Book Fair open, too, also drew families out on a chilly evening. Thank you to all families who came out!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are booking for Thursday afternoon from 4:20 to 8:00 PM and Friday morning. If you have not booked your conference yet, please do so asap in MyCBE. You can call the office, if you need help.  A reminder that this Friday is no school for students.

Our school attendance overall has improved significantly over the past 18 months. Kids are excited to come to school and participate in learning and the many exciting lunch clubs offered. Over the past few weeks, we have seen a significant increase in late arrivals. While we are happy they are coming to school, arriving late means missing out on literacy (learning to read, learning to write) on those days. Teachers are working hard to ensure that our students learn to read and write. We need your help by ensuring your child arrives at school on time. If you are wondering just how many students are late and why we are concerned … the amount of students arriving late (not counting bussed students!) ranges from 41 to 57. Please try to arrive on time. It helps your child to start the day calmly and with all of their peers. Thank you!

Warm regards,

Meike Thomsen, Principal
