Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

Congratulations to all our outstanding probationary teachers! They were confirmed into continuous contract positions this week. This means that they are all going to stay with us!

Ms. Jones has returned from her leave on Thursday. The students in room 4 and 5 were excited to see her again! Welcome back, Ms. Jones!

Congratulations to Jurgen, grade 1, who has learned all his grade 1 math fact sheets by heart and is now learning the multiplication and division sheets. Way to go, Jurgen!

What is Community and How Do I Fit in it?

All grade 1 to 6 classes have been accepted for week-long learning off-site through Calgary Open Minds for the 24-25 school year. This means that all teachers will attend an after school workshop in June, give up a full vacation day in July and participate in another after-school workshop in September. These field trips will happen at different times of the 24-25 school year. The overarching theme is: What is Community and How Do I Fit in it? This is an example of the extra work teachers do to enrich your child’s learning at Bowcroft School and how some off-campus learning activities need a year lead time. Nothing happens in the wink of an eye. We are fortunate to have staff who are willing to give up time with their own families to provide enrichment opportunities to Bowcroft students. This is going above and beyond!

The theme of What is Community and How Do I Fit in it?  will be our guiding question for all of next year.

Join Our Team!

We will be having three lunchroom supervisor postings. If you know any casual lunchroom supervisors, ask them to apply and join the Bowcroft Team! The grade 6 students enjoyed the Escape Rooms on Monday afternoon. They had two different ‘rooms’. Some groups solved the last cue literally in the ‘last second’. When speaking with some of the grade 6s, they all agreed that this should be done again – but with different escape rooms.

Register for Bussing

Reminder to register for bussing for the 24-25 school year, as it closes June 16, 2024.

Please encourage your friends and neighbors with small children to register for kindergarten/grade 1.

Field Trip Recap

Grade 1 classes went to Butterfield Acres this week. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped. Grade 6 students enjoyed the theatre production of Shrek at TB Riley.

Open House

Open House for Incoming Grade 7 and New Students to Thomas B. Riley School

Wednesday June 5, 2024 - 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM

All incoming students will be attending an in-school open house for all of our feeder schools including Brentwood, Belvedere-Parkway, and Bowcroft. New students to Thomas B. Riley are also welcome to attend if you have just moved into the area. The open house will begin for students at 10am and they will be transported by the feeder schools. If you have a child who is a new student not currently attending these schools, please contact the school office so they know to expect your child. Activities will include a brief assembly by our current Grade 7 teachers, a school tour led by current Grade 7 students, and some team-building activities/scavenger hunt to complete with some of our current students.

Thursday June 6, 2024 - 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

This is our Evening Open House for incoming families attending Thomas B. Riley School next year. Please join us for a presentation in the main gymnasium followed by a school tour. All incoming students and families are welcome.

School Council Opportunity at Thomas B. Riley School - June 12, 2024

Please also consider joining our final school council of the year on Wednesday June 12, 2024 at 6:00pm. It will be held at Thomas B. Riley School in the learning commons. There is lots of opportunity to get involved and be part of this amazing school community. We cannot do this without you! Your support is greatly appreciated. We hope to see you there!
