Dear Parents & Guardians

This is the last message of the 2024-25 school year. During the summer, you will see a crane and some other big equipment at EAST door of our school building. This equipment is necessary to haul out the deconstructed OLD boiler (thousands of pounds of poured iron pieces) as well as the metal stairs that are going into the basement. Once everything is out, the crane will then lower the TWO new boilers straight down into the basement. Work has been ongoing in the basement: new concrete pads for the new boilers have been poured, electrical has been changed, ventilations and pipes have been changed – all in anticipation of the new boilers. I have looked at pages and pages of technical drawings. The amount of engineering & planning that goes into a project of this size is enormous. I have been assured that we should have ‘perfect and consistent’ heat in the 2025-26 winter months. Fingers crossed!

Thank you to Jamie for coming in and running  Fire Safety Presentations to all our classes. Knowing to Drop and Roll is so important! Not to open a door that is hot to the touch is important to know too!

Staffing Update

Ms. Tetz, Ms.Hickling and Ms. Ruhrmann are leaving us. Our temp teachers Ms. Nacinovic and Ms. Marks are also leaving as their contracts end today. Ms. Afshari, while on a temp this year, has accepted a probationary contract for next year in one of our 4/5 classes.  We wish them all the very best in their new adventures.

Saying Good Bye to our students is always bitter sweet at the end of the school year. For 10 months, we have dried tears, celebrated lost teeth, put bandages on bloody knees and high-fived students for good choices. Students also come to the office to show off amazing math or new German language skills. We have helped mend friendship ‘break ups’ and shown students a way forward in difficult situations. While we will be apart for a couple of weeks now, we are already looking forward to seeing everyone again on September 2! I wish everyone safe summer fun. Memorable experiences, late nights around the campfire, playing cards and 1on1 time with your loved ones. Personally, I will be spending a week with my younger son, his wife and her parents in Kelowna, followed by little Alina (and her parents) coming to visit me, followed by me going to visit her later in the break. My elderberry bushes, black currant bushes, raspberries etc are loaded and ripening, so I’m sure that August will be a busy month of harvesting and canning/jam making.

Wishing everyone a wonderful summer! See you on September 2!

Warm regards,

Meike Thomsen, principal

Dear Grade 2/3 Families,

I’m excited to introduce myself as a new Grade 2/3 teacher at Bowcroft this coming fall. I feel truly fortunate to be joining such a welcoming school community.  I’ve lived near Bowness my entire life and know the community well. It’s a special place, and I’m so happy to have the opportunity to teach and grow alongside your children in a neighborhood that I feel deeply connected to. I’m excited for the chance to connect and work together starting in September.

Enjoy your summer, and I look forward to meeting you all on the first day of school!

Warmly,

Paige Rowley

My name is Emily Erickson-Flegg (Ms. Erickson), and I am thrilled to be joining the Bowcroft community next year as one of the Grade 5/6 teachers!

Teaching is my greatest passion, but I also have a deep love for the arts, history, science, and primatology. I completed my first degree in Anthropology at the University of Victoria, where I especially enjoyed studying primates—Japanese macaques and bonobos are among my favourites.

I moved to Calgary three years ago to complete my Bachelor of Education and have grown to truly appreciate all that this city, its land, and its people have to offer. In my spare time, I enjoy walking and hiking, often with a camera in hand to capture the beauty around me.

The 2025–2026 school year will mark my first opportunity to begin and complete a full academic year in my own classroom, and I am thrilled to embark on this journey with you. Over the past year, I gained valuable experience teaching in a Grade 5/6 classroom—an enriching and formative experience that has equipped me well for this exciting next step.

I am truly looking forward to getting to know you and working together to support your child’s learning and growth.

Wishing you a wonderful and restful summer!

Warm regards,
Emily Erickson-Flegg

Hello Bowcroft School, my name is Mrs. Kristalovich and I am going to be a Grade 5/6 teacher for the upcoming school year! I am very excited to be joining the Bowcroft community and I look forward to getting to know everyone. I have been teaching with the CBE for 8 years now in a variety of grades and roles and Social Studies is one of my favourite subjects.  When I’m not teaching, I love to spend a cold day with a good book and hot tea, as well as being creative with cross stitching and painting.  At home, my 4 year old daughter, 1.5 year old son and miniature schnauzer keep me on my toes most of the time!

I hope you all have a restful and well-deserved summer! Next year is going to be an amazing year of learning, laughter and connection, and I look forward to getting to know each other better.

Happy Summer!

Mrs. Kristalovich
