Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

Lets start with the best news of the week: I applied for a $5,000 Education Matters grant so that all the grade 2/3 students can go to the Royal Tyrell Museum on May 16. On February 27, 2024, I received the much anticipated news: We received the grant!

The CBE keeps on growing. In the 23-24 school year, 5886 additional students have joined the CBE. It is predicted that more than 8000 additional students will join the CBE in the 24-25 school year. Incredible growth. It certainly explains, why Bowcroft School is projected to welcome an additional 60 students for September! Bowcroft will be sitting anywhere between 410 to 420 students. The benefit to larger students numbers for us is, that it allows us to have all straight grades in our community program. At this point, it looks like: Kindergarten, grade 1, grade 1, grade 2, grade 2, grade 3, grade 3, grade 4, grade 4, grade 5, grade 6, grade 6.

For the German bilingual, we will have: Kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2, grade 2, grade 3, grade 4/5 and grade 5/6.

Again, these are preliminary scenarios. We will keep you informed as the year progresses. I will receive my budget for the 24-25 year in April and then the planning will become more certain.

Math

Congratulations to Hudson B in grade 2 for learning all of his multiplication and division facts up to 144 aka 12x12! Grade 3 students, according to the new curriculum need to know all their facts up to 10x10. If your child is in grade 3-6 and does NOT know them, please ask me to send the sheet home so that you can start practicing with them. Danke!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

March 21 in the evening and March 22 in the morning.

You will be able to book your conferences starting March 11 at 6pm. Please make sure to book your appointment. Ongoing communication between the teacher and the parents is essential for the success of the students. If you face technical challenges, please come in and speak with Ms. Corey, who can help you make an appointment. Each parent will be able to have 15 minutes with the teacher – unless your child has an IPP, which then gives you double the time. The office is calling all parents who will be given 30 minute blocks prior to the bookings opening up to the rest of the families.

Cosmetology Club Update

Frau Hauk will run the Cosmo Club twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 12:15 - 12:55 PM, for the Students.

  • Talked about Consultations, indeed, to check with your customer for any uneven areas on the head prior to combing (includes checking for lice, warts, ect.)
  • sanitizing your hands and working area and disinfecting tools after each customer
  • we started to learn about: Fishtail Braid, regular 3-Strand Braid, French Braid
  • and will continue with Dutch Braid/Under Braid, Twisted Braids, more than 3-Strand Braids, indeed weaving braids etc.
  • we will also touch on basic Head/Scalp Massage and Hand Massage (services which can be offered by a third person wile one person is performing braids, the second person can offer other services)

Japanese Guests

The University of Calgary has Japanese students coming over for a 5 week program to improve their English language skills. They live with homestay families and one morning in those 5 weeks, they visit Bowcroft School and spend time in classes.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed!

Please consider helping out. Duties include, helping parents and children shop for books, keeping the fair tidy and organized, and taking payment. It’s easy, it’s fun and the time always flies by!
