Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all the parents who attended the school council meeting on Tuesday this week in person or online. We continue to explore residencies for next year. So far, we have confirmed 4 days of learning Inuit games (dates to be determined); a free soccer residency in January (thank you, Mr. Benty for finding and organizing this one!); dance residency for November/December culminating in our winter concerts on December 10 and 11 (mark your calendars!). We are still exploring swimming for grade 1 and 2 and skiing for the older students. Teachers are also putting in applications for Open Minds again, as they have so very much enjoyed their trips this school year. Stay tuned as we continue to plan for an exciting, enriching 2025-2026 school year for your child/ren!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Next week is the Welcome to Kindergarten event on Thursday night, 6:00-7:00pm. Please come and join us if your child is registered for kindergarten. There will be many stations set up in the gym – run by volunteers. Some of the important things for children to learn/practice prior to arriving in kindergarten are:

  • how to get dressed independently
  • how to open and close their own food containers
  • their last name
  • throwing a ball back and forward
  • balancing
  • hopping on one leg (and then the other)
  • skip counting up to 20 and backwards. Any time I walk up and down stairs with my grand-daughter, we count. While driving, you can count how many cars you are passing. At home, putting a certain number of … on the table and ask “how many … are there?”

Traffic Safety

Traffic safety has been exceptionally hazardous these past few days. Please teach your child/ren the safe and legal ways of crossing the road. Walking out behind a bus to cross the road is not safe. Making U-turns and almost running over students who are trying to cross safely on the crosswalk is neither legal nor responsible. It takes all of us to ensure the safety of our students. Your child is learning from you and will be imitating your behavior. Please make sure to teach them how to be safe when crossing the road – even if that means walking a little further. There are many side roads that are close to the school and available for parking. Please use them instead of parking in the bus zone.

The weather has been mixed with sunshine, rain, warm, cold … please make sure to send rain gear when it’s raining. The students do need to go outside to run and play, and they will get wet if they don’t come with a rain gear. Danke!

We Need Volunteers!

  • Thursday, June 26, 2025
  • 9am - 11:30am

Sports Day is coming up! In order to run an event like this we need 25 volunteers to run/help with the stations.

Stations will be set up throughout the field, compound, and inside the school. The kids will have passports, and they will receive points for completing each station.

As a volunteer, you explain the station to the kids, make it fun, give positive feedback and stamp their passport! Easy peasy!

You must have your volunteer clearance to volunteer for this activity.

Please sign up!

This is the long May weekend. No school tomorrow, as the teachers have professional development. No school on Monday either, as it is a holiday. See you all on Tuesday morning!

Warm regards,

Meike Thomsen, Principal
