Dear Parents and Guardians,
Dance Residency
The ballroom dance residency has started this week. Every now and then, I stopped by the gym to watch for a couple of minutes – and usually ended up helping out as a leader or follower, depending on what was needed. Such fun! Even Ms. Smith has tried her hand (or shall I say FEET?) at dancing! All the smiling faces as students learn Merengue (kindergarten and grade 1), Tango (grade 2 and 3), Cha Cha Cha for grade 4s and Jive for the oldest students. Part of learning is to grow comfortable with being uncomfortable – and to work through it. The little ones simply have oodles of fun while the older division 2 students are at the awkward stage of: this is fun, but am I still cool if I show that I am having fun? Mr. Martin was welcomed back with big smiles and some high-fives by some of the students who remember him from 2 years ago. The students who learned to dance 2 years ago had never had proper music instruction. Now, the students have had music instruction with Ms. Hou for the past 2 years. This year, they have music 3 times a week! Amazing! Mr. Martin has mentioned that he can tell the difference as the kids all know what rhythm and beat is and … that they are all able to ‘hear’ the music so much better this time.
Laptop Computers
We are excited to share that 94 new laptop computers are going to arrive in the next 2 weeks. The school has also purchased a new laptop cart that can house 40 laptops. This cart will be housed in one of our grade 5/6 classrooms. Each laptop will be assigned to a student, to give students a bigger feeling of responsibility for ‘their’ device. All the computers are funded through the CBE Evergreening program.
Inuit Games
Learning about Inuit Games with Danica Taylor had to be cancelled due to the strike in October. I am happy to say that Danica is now coming on December 18 and 19, making the last 2 days before winter break exciting for our students.
