Dear Parents and Guardians,
Wow, what great ‘shopping’ was had by all today! Kids loved trying on new clothing, picking out toys. Thank you to Ms. Bonham’s friend who has been organizing this event for years now!
In October, we are focusing on:
ROARS - Ownership
Classroom Champions - Emotions
7 Sacred Teachings - Love
Adopt a School at the Signal Hill Indigo has raised $7,109 for Bowcroft so far – and they extended it by another week! This money will help our school library to purchase many new, hard-cover books. Some of these books will focus on the new science and math curriculum, others will be the newest and most loved books from authors our students love.
Our final student count at the end of September was 357 with 145 of them attending the German program. This means that we keep our Equity funding of $95,000 as well as the small school allowance of $50,000. Both these allocations are the reason for our small class sizes! This student count allowed us to hire a 0.5 FTE teacher for our grade 2 class. Please welcome Ms. Soniya Afshari, allowing Ms. Gartshore to return to the office. Ms. Afshari will be starting on Monday, October 7, 2024. Ms. Afshari loves math and sciences and has a daughter in grade 2 as well! She will be spending Friday in the grade 2 class with Ms. Gartshore to ensure a smooth transition for Monday.
This is the weekend of the casino. There are about 50 parents volunteering during the two days, which will bring $60,000 to $80,000 to the school. Thank you to each and everyone of you!!!
Winter has arrived in the mountains, and the first frost of the fall arrived in Bowness on Thursday night. I saw frosted over cars when I drove into Bowness. As the temperatures drop, please ensure that your child/ren has/have hats, mits, winter boots, winter clothing etc. Bowcroft School collaborates with WINS. Ms. Leah and Ms. Corey are both able to print off gift certificates for families in need. You can take that gift certificate to any WINS in Calgary and purchase winter clothing items.
Warm regards,
Meike Thomsen, Principal
