Dear Bowcroft Families,
I am writing to share some personal news with you. After much reflection, I have decided that the end of this school year will mark my retirement from my role as principal of Bowcroft School and the Calgary Board of Education.
It has been an extraordinary privilege to serve this school community. Over the years, I have had the honor of working alongside dedicated staff, supportive families, and—most importantly—remarkable students. Together, we have celebrated successes, navigated challenges, and grown as a learning community. I am deeply proud of all that we have accomplished.
While this decision comes with mixed emotions, I am confident that Bowcroft School will continue to thrive. The strength of our staff, the engagement of families, and the resilience of our students make this a truly special place.
Please know that this is a planned and well-supported transition. Education Director Kevin Howell will be working closely with the school to support the transition to a new principal, who will be hired this spring and begin in August 2026. This includes Director Howell sharing updates in the coming weeks regarding the appointment of a new principal for Bowcroft School in preparation for the 2026–2027 school year. Later this month, families, students, and staff will also receive an online survey to gather input on the programming priorities and leadership qualities most important to you. This feedback will help inform the interview process.
Between now and the end of the year, my focus remains on ensuring a smooth transition and finishing the year strong with our students and staff. There will be opportunities to connect and celebrate as the year draws to a close, and I look forward to those moments with you.
Thank you for your ongoing support, partnership, and trust over the years. Serving this community has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my professional life, and I will carry many fond memories with me.
With sincere appreciation,
Meike Thomsen
Principal, Bowcroft School
