Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Friday, the whole staff had their initial meeting for Classroom Champions. Classroom Champions teaches the students the Champion Mindset, which has three components:
- Connection
- confidence and
- resilience.
It has six key elements that are taught in sequence:
- Goal setting
- Emotions
- Community
- Perseverance
- Healthy living and
- Leadership.
Our Live Athlete Reveal will happen this Friday! We are excited to find out WHO our Olympian will be this year! Fingers crossed that we will meet them again IN PERSON this year!
Popcorn Thursday will be run by our fabulous parent volunteers Nicole and April again. Nicole purchases the popcorn and April comes in to sell it during the lunch hour on Thursdays. Thank you to both. The students love their popcorn. I have heard that cheddar cheese is Ms. Smith’s favorite flavor!
BPAC had a parent survey on their FB site. The survey asked about charging parents field trip fees. Why? Because our teachers love to take classes on field trips and/or bring learning experiences to the school (like duck eggs or goose eggs). While BPAC is still supporting field trips, they do not have the funds to pay for it all. In order to have as many field trips as possible, we are going to a hybrid version: parents as well as BPAC will pay for field trips. 17% of parents felt comfortable paying (annually) up to $20-30 per student, 37% $30-40 and 17% with $40-50 for field trips. Not a single parent was against it.
Friday, September 12: Terry Fox Run! Students ran hard to meet their personal best.
Thursday, September 25: Meet the Teacher 4:30pm to 6:30pm
At 4:30pm as well as at 5:30pm, the teachers will be doing presentations to the parents who choose to be present at that time. They will talk about routines, expectations, show some rubrics and what the writing expectations for the end of the grade will look like at a 1-4 level. After the presentation, parents can ask questions and wander. This will be repeated at 5:30pm. The evening will wrap up at 6:30pm.
On Monday, September 29, 2025, from 8:00 to 1:00pm, parents will be invited to IPP meetings. Each meeting will be 20 minutes long. Ms. Corey will call and book these appointments with you.
Everything Deutsch will be at Bowcroft School on Thursday, September 25, during the Meet the Teacher evening. If you wish to purchase German books, you can! Maybe some early Christmas shopping?
While Ms. Heather, our Lead Lunch, is supporting the front office, Healthy Hunger (fun lunch) is going to be a bit delayed, as she does not have the time at the moment to get it set up. Thank you for your patience!
We are excited to announce that Ms. Mahwish Shariff is joining Bowcroft as the new C secretary on September 22, 2025. She comes from Haysboro School. She speaks Urdu, Punjabi and some Hindi. Some of our parents will enjoy speaking to her in their first language.
BPAC has their next casino in April-June 2026! This is the single biggest fundraiser of the school every 2 years. We hope that you will all be able to help with one shift!
Ms. Corey asks that, if your child has a medical condition, to, please, come and see her and to fill out this year’s medical forms. This is important and URGENT. Important also is that you update your student’s Demographic forms in MyCBE. So far, 112 are done so 250 students to go!). Please attend to this as soon as possible!
Our door #4 is now open again as the construction in the basement for our new boilers is coming to an end. Thank you to the families who are now lining up at a new door!
Photo day is on Monday and whole class photos will also be taken at that time.
Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen, principal/Schulleiterin
