Dear Parents and Guardians,

At the beginning of each new school year, certain forms have to be updated. Many of you have stopped by to update medical forms and/or to get started on the volunteer clearance process. There are many forms that need annual updating online. You can review them by accessing your MyCBE account (demographics,  volunteer form, consent for publishing photos (or not) etc. If you have not done so yet, please attend to these forms as soon as you can. If you have never logged into your MyCBE account, we suggest you do so soon, as you will need your MyCBE account to book your parent-teacher interviews.

With wet weather, we suggest that you pack an extra pair of clothing in backpacks for the little ones. An extra set of clothing is always helpful to have.

Indigo: Adopt a School!

September 15 to October 6, Indigo at Signal Hill has adopted Bowcroft School. This always results in free books for our library!

School Council & BPAC Meeting

Our first School Council & BPAC Meeting of the year is this coming Tuesday, September 17 at 6:30pm, at the school. Please join us! What happens at a School Council & BPAC meeting, you might ask?!? We start the meeting with the School Council portion, where a grade team of teachers may introduce themselves and talk about their grade and the exciting things they are doing/planning on doing. Next week, the English grade 6 teachers will be present. The teachers then go home, and Ms. Thomsen and Ms. Gartshore give everyone a school admin update. This is where you get to hear what Bowcroft admin is working on behind the scenes, as well as what fun and exciting things they have planned for the weeks and month(s) to come. We then move forward into the BPAC portion of the meeting where topics like fundraising, financials and upcoming events, like our casino are discussed. These meetings normally run for about an hour, but can run up to two hours. Next month is our AGM where the executive will be (re)elected; Tuesday October 8, 2024.

Casino

We’re on the final home stretch! We still need your help! There are still 10 shifts available. Without a full volunteer list, our casino will be cancelled and all future funds will be lost.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers that have already signed up!! We can’t do this without you!

Casinos are by far our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are only granted a casino by AGLC once every 18-24 months. We receive between $60,000 - $80,000 from this one two day event. To put that into contrast, a regular ‘good’ fundraiser raises less than $1,000. This money directly pays for all residencies like Alien Inline, Trickster Theater and last years ballroom dance residency; Elder Saa'kokoto, Chantal and all indigenous visitors as well. It also pays for some new technology at the school; two new classroom smartboards were paid for by BPAC in the last two years. BPAC also pays for gym equipment, like balls, skipping ropes and hockey sticks. All subscriptions like Mathletics, Math Seeds, Reading Eggs and Raz Kids are paid for entirely with BPAC funds. Casino funds will also be subsidizing the huge Open Minds field trips that all Bowcroft students will be attending this year; bussing for all other field trips is also paid for by BPAC. Without the casino funds these things would simply not happen at Bowcroft.

Sign up here! October 5 & 6 at the Elbow River Casino

Popcorn Thursday are Back!!

The favourite day of the week at Bowcroft is back! Students are encouraged to bring $2 to the Bistro at lunchtime, in exchange for a fun bag of popcorn. BPAC receives a small percentage of each sale, but this is more about fun and learning for the students. Kindergarten students will make a special trip to the office, as a class, to buy their popcorn in the morning. One bag of popcorn per child. The cost is $2 per bag. We ask, if possible, for toonies and loonies only.

Hope to see you on Tuesday for our first BPAC meeting at 6:30pm at school.

Warm regards,

Meike Thomsen, Principal
