Dear Parents and Guardians,

The first day of school, wildfire smoke had blown in over night – after a summer of mostly blue skies (ok, some rainy days were mixed in). So instead of meeting the teachers outside, everyone came into the gym to find their teacher. While it was different than planned, and noisier than it would have been outside, it worked well. By 9:15am, students were in classes and working on their first tasks. I am always surprised to see just how tall some of the students have grown over the summer. Some have easily added 2 inches … or more?!

School Council

Next week, Tuesday evening at 6:30pm, we have our first BPAC meeting. In person. Please join us if you are new to the school!

Celebration

In June 2025, 20.57% of students sat at above 10% absenteeism with 6.51% missing more than 20%. A year earlier, 38.46% missed more than 10 % and 13.4% missed more than 20%. Great improvement!

The Office

Ms. Corey asks that you complete your demographic forms, which you can find under MyCBE App. If you plan on volunteering, please come and see Ms. Corey to get the process started.

Happening

The 5/6 teachers have been busy planning their first fieldtrip! They are going to Jumpingpound Demonstration Forest in Kananaskis on October 15. The description reads as follows:

This field program takes students through diverse grasslands, mixed-wood forests, coniferous forests, and wooded to shrubby fens along the montane slopes of the Rocky Mountains. This region has a history of hunting, forestry, ranching, oil & gas, and recreation. It also supports many animal species such as bears, wolves, wild cats, trumpeter swans, bull trout, and salamanders.

Our program runs out of the Spruce Woods Day Use Area and takes students into the woods to study, learn, and connect with this beautiful landscape! This site is equipped with a parking lot, picnic tables, outhouses, and a shelter with a wood stove.

Parents of the 5/6 classes: if you like to hike and spend time outside, mark this day in your calendar and ask to take the day off! 😊

Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen,  principal/Schulleiterin
