WAG Dec. 18-22 | Last Week, Winter Celebrations

Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

It is hard to believe that next week is the last week before the winter break. Will you be travelling to see loved ones? Are loved ones travelling to Calgary to be with you and your family? Family traditions around holidays are deeply rooted in our memories about our childhood. Who prepares what, what is being eaten, the routine of the day itself. It is important to remember that BEING WITH LOVED ONES is the biggest gift of all. Time together, eating together, laughing together, sharing stories, playing card games, board games, table tennis, walks in the city, catching a movie or two. I can’t to hug my oldest son and little Alina again (and my daughter-in-law, too, of course!). Seeing little Alina only every couple of months is so hard – especially as I used to spend time with her every Sunday afternoon.  She grows so much in 2-3 months! She talks non-stop now and often asks: “Oma, do my toys miss me?”

You have not heard me mention the card game cribbage in a while! If you don’t know what it is, do google it. It’s the best game to play with your grade 2-4 students to practice addition facts and a bit of strategy.

Last year, families expressed how much they enjoyed the ‘art walk’ in the learning commons. Classes will be making art to be presented. You will have access to the learning commons at 5:30pm with a 6:00pm start to the performance.

When you arrive at school, your child will go to their classroom. Their teacher will be waiting for them there and supervise them.

The students who perform also in the choir, will meet Ms. Hou in the music room instead of going to their homeroom teacher.  Once the choir has performed, they will exit the gym and then go to their homeroom teacher.

Classes will enter the gym to perform and then exit and return to their classroom. If you only have one child, please do stay for the whole performance. The chairs will be set up in a circle, looking in, as the classes will be performing in the middle of the gym to allow you the best view. The choir performs on the stage.

Two isles will be in the circle: the students will enter and exit through them. Please do not move chairs into them. I am looking forward to seeing you all on either Wednesday night or Thursday night.

If you should be going on vacation early, please do notify the office. Thank you!

We would like to welcome Ms. Leah Akrigg to our front office team. She started on December 4, 2023 and many of you have met her already.

Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen, Principal
