WAG Oct. 23-27 | Stranger Danger, Hoop Dancing, Math Night

Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

Stranger danger! When outside, just like we watch out for coyotes who could pose a threat to our students, we watch out for suspicious adults. Please have a conversation with your child/ren why it is important NOT to talk to strangers. Today, teachers will have had a conversation with the children about not speaking with strangers. Students will have been told that if a stranger is trying to speak to them, to walk away and to immediately go find an adult supervisor and to tell them. Thank you for speaking with your child/ren tonight about this.

This Thursday, four Mount Royal student teachers started at Bowcroft. Ask your child if their class is hosting one!

Students had a lot of fun improving their Hoop Dancing skills with Jackie Soppit this week.

Our director Kevin Howell visited this morning for the first time this school year. He was very pleased to see all our classes and hallways looking so spacious and organized.

Tuesday started with BAD SMELL at the school in the office/music and kindie hallway. We had it checked out and it turned out to be a dry floor drain. The solution was easy, so no more bad smell!

Our September count has come in: We are funded for 355 students this school year (and we already are at 364!). Bowcroft is growing fast and is now almost at 80% capacity (458 students is 100% capacity according to Alberta Education). This has allowed us to increase teacher time and EA time (the increase in time started effective October 2, 2023).

We are delighted to share that Ms. Farrell had a baby girl. Mom and child are doing well. Mr. Thiessen’s last day is this Friday. We thank him for his time at Bowcroft. Ms. Payton Isaac will take over room 4. She has a minor in English and many years of experience as Program Lead at the YMCA, coordinating swim lessons. She is also a lifeguard and swim instructor. She will start on October 23, 2023. She is a new graduate (spring) from Mount Royal University and can’t wait to set up her first, own classroom.

Looking forward to seeing many of you tonight at 6:30pm for our FAMILY MATH NIGHT.

Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen, Principal
