WAG Oct. 30 - Nov. 3 | Fall Break, Language Program Advertising, Remembrance Day, Reading & Running

Liebe Eltern, dear parents and guardians,

Winter has arrived. We have gone from balmy fall weather to freezing cold, sleet and snow. This is the very first year in which we will have a fall break! How exciting. I hope you have made some plans – I will be babysitting my furry grand-daughter. November 8 will be the last day of school. November 15, classes resume.

It also means that we need to dress differently. If you have a kindergarten/grade 1 student, please practice getting dressed with them. They need to be able to do so INDEPENDENTLY. Please also ensure that your child has a hat, mittens, a scarf. I’m outside for lunch supervision for 40 minutes, and I can tell you: it’s COLD OUTSIDE! As always, we do have extra jackets and snowpants. If you are in need of winter clothing for your child/ren, please speak with the office.

Exciting news to share, as some of you may have already heard or seen, the CBE language advertising campaign has officially launched. Digital displays are catching the attention of drivers all over the city. Here are the following locations where CBE Languages marketing is on display for the next 4 weeks:

  • Sarcee Trail NW & Stoney Trail (across from Beacon Hill Shopping Centre)
  • Macleod Trail & 146 Ave SE
  • 32 Ave NE & 19 ST NE
  • Stony Plain Rd & 170 St NW
  • Barlow Trail & 37 Ave NE

Additionally, there are various other digital displays placed throughout the city.

In addition, radio listeners are hearing our ads on the following stations:

  • FM Virgin Radio (98.5 FM)
  • FM AMP Radio (90.3 FM)
  • FM News (107.3 FM)
  • FM Country 105 (105.1 FM)
  • AM News 770 AM CHQR

I have already been at a meeting where one colleagues said: “I had no idea we have German bilingual! My wife is German, we will totally enrol our child at Bowcroft when the time comes.”

Our Remembrance Day assembly will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 10:45am. Parents and families are welcome to attend. Please let us know if you will be joining us.

Reading and Running started this Wednesday after school. It is popular and, therefore, over-subscribed so that not all students who wanted to participate are able to participate. The limit is 30. We are so fortunate to have this program run at Bowcroft School!

Hope you are staying warm and safe.

Warm Regards,
Meike Thomsen, Principal
