WAG Oct. 9-13 | Attendance, Illness, Kindness, Clubs, Math

Dear Parents and Guardians, liebe Eltern!

Coyote sighting at the school on Monday! Please always check the schoolyard prior to allowing your small children to play. We have had the first coyote sighting on Monday afternoon. Please be vigilant to ensure your child’s safety.

Attendance Does Matter

Illness  – or Not

Your child is not feeling 100% in the morning – should they go to school?

A child should stay home if:

  • They have a fever
  • Are throwing up
  • Are coughing when they have to speak
  • They have pink-eye (no treatment)
  • Have lice (and no treatment)

But: If the school calls and says “Little Johnny has a tummy ache and you need to pick him up.” …  If you know why he has a tummy ache, please explain it to the secretary. If you know that it is more a psychological reason rather than an illness reason, and you want your child to stay at school and work through it, please let us know.

In order to celebrate acts of kindness observed by students and staff of students, we now have Caught Ya! slips, which have been distributed to teachers and staff. Students and staff are encouraged to fill them out if they see someone doing something kind. They will be read over the announcements and posted on our KINDNESS BOARD in the hallway for everyone to see. Each month will have a different color.

Ms. Candace and her Leadership Club have been busy planning fun activities for when it gets cold outside. This schedule is also posted on the Clubs page.

We now also have Hallway Ninjas. A weekly award to the class who has been walking in the hallway the quietest. So far, room 9 and 18 have won them. We will give you weekly updates.

Math: Grade 3 students need to know their multiplication facts up to 10x10 by the end of Grade 3 now. This means that if your child is in grade 4-6, they should know them already.  Please practice multiplication facts with your children while driving in the car or prepping dinner. Like last year, I have practice sheets that can go home. You start with x2 and work your way up to 12x12. When your child knows them all, they will receive a certificate. Do encourage your child to stop by and pick up their first math sheet from me.
