WAG Sept. 18-22 | Internet Safety Presentation, Street Safety, Conferences, Bottle Drive, Book Fair
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Internet Safety Presentation
We had approximately 20 parents join the Grade 3-6 students on Monday morning to listen to Paul Davis’ presentation on Internet dangers.
His key messages were:
- You have to be 13 years old to be on ANY social media
- Do NOT have computers/technology in your bedroom
- Each photo you take also tracks your location
- Deleting something does NOT delete it. Nothing, ever, is truly deleted.
Here is a link that he would like me to share with our parents: https://beacons.ai/internetsafety
Street Safety
While talking about safety, lets talk about street safety. Please teach your child/ren how to be safe when crossing the road. That means: using the crosswalks! Yes, this may be a bit further to walk, but it’s the safe thing to teach them. Last week, we have witnessed the following:
- children running across 73rd between cars
- a door flinging open on 73rd and a child jumping out directly in front of a car and running across
- cars making u turns in the middle of the road (by the alley that pops out where the bus parking is)
- kids running between the bus and cars to their parents who are waiting in their car on the other side of 73rd after school
- cars making uturns by the crosswalk and kids having to stand in the middle of the road while that car finishes its uturn
- many cars parking where the bus pulls in
- many cars seem to be going in and out of the staff parking lot as well
- much speeding through the playground zone
As parents, you teach our children by example.
School Council Meeting
School Council on Monday night was well attended. Over 20 parents were present. Thank you to the Grade 2/3 team for introducing themselves and answering questions from parents. If you would like to meet the kindergarten teachers, make sure to attend our October meeting!
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Next week are parent-teacher conferences. If you have a student who is on an IPP, you will have received a call from the office to book your conference. On Monday, everyone would have received an email, inviting you to sign up for your conference slot. If you have not signed up or need help doing so, please call Ms. Corey in the office.
September 21 & 22: Bottle Drive!
Grab your bottles etc., on your way to your parent-teacher conferences! They are getting picked up on Friday at noon.
Volunteers still needed for the Bookfair!
Final Countdown!! One week away from our first Scholastic Bookfair of the year!
We still need volunteers! Please consider signing up! We cannot run the bookfair without you! Your child will visit the bookfair with their class next week, on either Wednesday or Thursday. Each class will have 20-30 minutes to shop the bookfair. If you plan to send money, please send it in a clear Ziploc baggie. While classes are visiting the bookfair, teachers will be adding books to their wish lists for their classroom. During interviews, parents can purchase books from their child’s wish list and gift that book to teachers during their interview.
Students (and parents) can also shop during lunch hour or directly after school.
Bookfair Hours of Operation:
Wednesday 9am-4pm
Thursday 9am-7:30pm
Friday 8am-1:00pm
